I'm an epileptic. I know that the pressure to see more patients tends to be high, but she took the time to get to know me and what I liked to do. The more she learned about me, the better advice she could give on how to change my habits in order to remain healthy. And the more I was willing to listen because I felt like a person and less like a 4:00-4:15 appointment.Brandon McBridehttp://www.stevenshenager.edu/healthcare/associates/nursing-educationnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7323692122514281455.post-91108989943139853012012-09-18T09:47:21.395-04:002012-09-18T09:47:21.395-04:00I find this to be the 64K dollar question for any ...I find this to be the 64K dollar question for any patient. Its a fine line between the knowledgeable and the compassionate. As patients we want and expect both, within reason. Yet as a patient with Crohns disease, it still seems to be a challenge to navigate. Take for instance the differences in attitudes among doctors whom practice in Peds vs Adult. The level of sincerity is exponential and the hospital staff tends to fall in line. Treatment occurs as if they are ones being treated and line vanishes. Yet in similar situations as an adult, it is a completely different story. Empathy tends to lessen, and we are left to fend for ourselves. I for one, am still searching for a one a doctor whom is a mix of both.Joenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7323692122514281455.post-59331664023173113782012-08-17T08:54:30.630-04:002012-08-17T08:54:30.630-04:00I value both in a physician. If you feel you can not talk to them, you won't, and you definitely want someone that knows what they are doing.

There have been times in my life I've had the expertise of a doctor that has trouble making eye contact, and he is not all warm and fuzzy. I found them to be excellent in rendering care, and I appreciated their strengths. Their strengths outweighed the appearance of emotional distance.

I am lucky to have one that embodies both.I believe empathic skills aid the patient immensely and the importance of being such should not be overlooked.Chrysalis https://www.blogger.com/profile/00757696627388704079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7323692122514281455.post-68077848954374699672012-08-07T18:57:24.585-04:002012-08-07T18:57:24.585-04:00Well putWell putpradaxa internal bleedinghttp://www.onlinelawyersource.com/pradaxa/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7323692122514281455.post-76764158321419312972012-08-03T10:43:16.750-04:002012-08-03T10:43:16.750-04:00Thanks for the comment, Joan. I have been to physicians who rush in the door as if ready to put out a fire and then leave just as quick. They make me nervous and either I try to talk with them or I don't go back. Doctors are human beings who have feelings too. As in other relationships It is a two way street.

The doctor-patient relationship is a marriage of sorts. When the communication is open and honest it is well on its way to celebrating a golden anniversary. But when disagreements erupt and there is a breakdown of communication dissention can bring about separation.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12777978974744104185noreply@blogger.com
